Group will match donations for new playground- Brock Citizen
Efforts to build a new playground and skate park in Sunderland have gotten a tremendous boost from a nation-wide organization.
Let Them Be Kids has offered to match, dollar-for-dollar, the community fundraising totals.
"Every dollar we raise will be doubled," said Bill Brethour, a member of the Sunderland Lions Club, which has partnered with the local Legion branch, Sunderland Harvester hockey club and the organizing committee of the Maple Syrup Festival to oversee the fundraising drive.
The funding will flow through the Helping Hands program, which helps build new playgrounds, skate parks and fitness centres in communities across the country.
"Your project was selected because we were impressed with the organizing group and their desire and passion to improve their community, not just for themselves but for all citizens, young and old," reads a letter from Let The Be Kids CEO Ian Hill.
The fundraising drive opened with an announcement at the opening ceremony of last weekend's Maple Syrup Festival. Donations will be accepted into August, with construction of the new playground and Skate Park to follow in late summer.
To make a donation, visit www.sunderland.ltbk.ca
The Township of Brock will offer a charitable tax receipt for donation of $20 or more. Cheques must be made payable to Township of Brock, with a memo line of 'Sunderland Playground.'
